Sunway Medical Centre Profile Overview and History
Established in November 1999, Sunway Medical Centre is an Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) accredited private hospital located in Malaysia’s first fully integrated green township of Sunway City.
The hospital, which is the largest private quaternary hospital in Malaysia, currently offers comprehensive healthcare services, with 724 licensed beds, more than 230 consultation suites, 18 operating theatres and two multi-storey car parks with a total of 1,470 parking bays.
To better cater to the international market, given the growing medical tourism industry, Sunway Medical Centre has embarked on an extensive expansion plan, next to the existing hospital building. Tower C has completed its first phase in October of 2016 with the opening of the new Cancer & Radiosurgery Centre as well as Nuclear Medicine Centre, which will also house other Centres of Excellence such as Digestive Health Centre and Dialysis Centre. The second phase, with a 10-level tower, housing single room wards and consultation suites, has started its operations mid-2017. The hospital has also opened two new towers, Tower D and E, in mid-2023. With the expansion, the hospital is one of the leading private medical centres in the region which is poised to set new standards of service with an expansive built capacity of 885 beds.
Sunway Medical Centre offers a comprehensive range of medical services, which include facilities and advanced medical technologies for outpatient and inpatient speciality care, health and wellness programmes, and 24-hour emergency services, which include a dedicated Children’s Emergency, the first private hospital to offer this service. The services are coupled with a strong support system comprising of 3,300 dedicated personnel including medical consultants, professional allied health staff as well as trained and dedicated nursing staff.

The Hospital has attained the certificate of conformance for COVID-19 Guidelines for Medical Travel Program by Global Healthcare Accreditation (GHA).
Expansion Plans
The current expansion aims to reconcile patients and staff to the calming effects of nature, to reduce the building’s environmental impact, to create greater flexibility in space use, and to capitalise on the latest medical technology and best practices.
Women’s Health Block
The new Women’s Health Services Block will be housed in the upcoming Tower E to provide advanced and dedicated services to address women’s complex health issues. Sunway Medical Centre has invested in vast resources, cutting-edge technology and clinical expertise to give all women seamless access to the best care at every stage of life.
Children’s Health Block
The new Children’s Health Block will be housed in the upcoming Tower F to deliver the highest quality, the most compassionate, and the most family-friendly outpatient and inpatient services. It will be one of the largest children’s health centres in Malaysia with more than 10 paediatric sub-specialities providing medical support and preventative measures for the physical, mental, and behavioural health of infants, children, and adolescents.
Independent & Assisted Living Block
The new purpose-built Independent and Assisted Living Block will be housed in Tower D to cater to the increasingly ageing nation, fully equipped with senior-friendly features and assistive technology offering the safest and most seamless accessibility for the disabled, elderly, and frail.
